Jasmine Hurt is a rising senior at Ponte Vedra High School and was recently crowned Miss Ponte Vedra of 2019! In her junior year, she achieved A/B Honor Roll while taking 2 Advanced Placement/3 Honors classes. She is passionate about enriching and educating the community through the performing arts and other diversity programs! Jasmine is being nominated for the President’s Volunteer Service Award in 2019. Most notable, Jasmine has volunteered close to 200 community service hours within the last calendar year. Most of those community service hours were achieved by volunteering in Community Theatre at FSCJ’s High School’s Summer Musical Theatre Experience, International Thespian Society / Ponte Vedra’s Dramatic Arts, and Theatre Jacksonville!
She has helped raised thousands of dollars for the Dramatic Arts Program and other community theatres by performing many leads roles in plays and musicals including Mrs. Gibbs in Our Town (2019), Sarah Bernhardt in the Complete History of Theatre (2018), & Frau Blucher in the musical, Young Frankenstein (2018). Jasmine has won a total of three Critic’s Choice Awards at the district level for Clybourne Park - Ensemble Scene (2017), Odd Couple - Duet Acting (2017), & Writer’s Block - Original Pantomime (2018) along with numerous Superior awards at the State level.
Jasmine participates in other various school clubs and organizations such as the Sand Sharks in helping to clean local area beaches which is another area of passion to keep our beaches clean and protecting the ocean environment. She is also an active member of the Young Feminist Club, Young Democrats, and the Gay Straight Alliance (GSA).
Additionally, she is making a positive impact in the community by participating in several diversity & inclusion programs. As an example, Jasmine has been involved in OneJax Institute’s Metrotown-In-A-Day (both her Freshman & Junior years) which is teen diversity program designed for future leaders to elevate levels of understanding, promote respect, create awareness, bridge gaps in diversity and inclusion. Jasmine participated as a speaker in Bridging the Gaps of Interracial Inequities / Inequalities panel discussions her sophomore year as part of the Young Democrats.
Currently, she is casted and performing the role Michelle/nun in an upcoming musical, Sister Act, at Theatre Jacksonville in June 2019. She is appearing now on TV in a commercial/jingle called ‘It’s On’ for CW17/WJXT. In her spare time, Jasmine enjoys spending time at the beach, traveling to NYC to see musicals / plays with her mother, and supporting community theatre. Upon graduation, she would like to pursue her Bachelor/Master of Arts in Acting/Drama and become an actress on television/film.
